Understanding Customs Values (Argus)

Importing a vehicle into Algeria requires a clear understanding of how the Douane Algérienne (Customs) calculates duties. Unlike the market price you pay in Dubai or Europe, taxes are calculated based on a Reference Value (often called the Argus Value).

Why is this important? If you buy a car for €20,000, but the Customs Reference Value is €25,000, you will be taxed on the €25,000 figure. This database helps you estimate that taxable base.

How Taxes Are Calculated

The calculation formula for passenger vehicles (Tourisme) typically follows this structure:

  • 1. Customs Value (VC): The Argus Value found in the table above + Shipping Cost.
  • 2. Customs Duty (DD): Usually 15% or 30% of the VC (depending on engine size).
  • 3. VAT (TVA): 19% applied to the (VC + DD).
  • 4. TCS: Additional taxes may apply for new vehicles.

Important Note on Currency

The values shown are in the currency of origin (EUR, USD, AED, CNY). When calculating taxes, these must be converted to DZD using the official bank rate, not the parallel market rate.
